Frequently asked questions.
FAQs: Yoga and Bluestem
-
We currently offer in-person classes only. Come practice in our beautiful, newly renovated studio, in the presence of other live human beings!
You can read our COVID-19 policy here. In March 2022, we are still requiring masks of everyone, even during class. We look forward to taking off masks and sharing our smiles. We will evaluate local transmission later this month, after spring break.

We have lots of answers! Check out our New to Bluestem page, including this FAQ section especially for beginners.

Great question! And we summed it up here. If you have questions after reading that, talk to a teacher before taking class. And remember that private one-on-one sessions are available.

Great question. Read our long answer here. :-)

Bein’ all up-front and honest here: We don’t have a substitute teacher for this class. If Diane woke up sick or her car wouldn’t start, this class would be cancelled on short notice. We don’t want you to show up and be disappointed. Sooooo, we encourage you to opt in to text as well as email notifications. And we encourage you to check your device of choice before you leave the house. We don’t expect this to happen often at all, but, like all good scouts, we try to be prepared.

We don’t have dedicated front-desk staff, so we don’t really have “walk-in” hours. The studio is open 15 minutes before class and by appointment. We offer classes at diverse times, from early morning to evening. See our weekly schedule here.

No, we’re pretty centrally located—7 minutes from Mass, less than 5 from Wakarusa—and parking is easy-peasy!
3727 West 6th Street, in the northwest corner of the Rueschhoff building. That’s a little west of Westlake Hardware and Wendy’s, a little east of the former HyVee. Before Bluestem, our space was the home of Salon Lucca.
Here’s a map.

Most classes have a drop-in rate of $20; a couple classes cost $15 or less. Our New Client Special is a fabulous deal, and after that, we encourage you to become a studio member or to buy a package.
Packages give you a set number of classes (usually 10), and one “credit” is deducted each time you register for a class. One of our memberships gives unlimited weekly classes, and one gives 5 classes per month. When you purchase classes in bulk, they cost less. The lower price, and the convenience of pre-pay, make getting to class regularly just a little bit easier. :-) You can read about packages and plans here.

Instead of first-class-free, we have a great New Client Special. All the classes you care to take for 14 consecutive days, plus 2 guest passes, for $40. The offer encourages you to try different styles of yoga and different teachers, so you can see what you like and how well our schedule matches yours. Read more here.

Bluestems are flowering grasses. Big Bluestem and Little Bluestem are native to Kansas (and so we named our studio memberships “Big” and Little”). Little Bluestem is one of the dominant grasses of the tallgrass prairie. I liked giving the studio a nature-y and a Kansish name.
(I just learned that two other bluestem species from Asia and Europe are invading Kansas prairies, sigh….)
FAQs: Registering, Paying, and Cancelling
-
No, but it’s the only way to guarantee your spot, and some classes sell out. Also, it makes check-in smoother and so makes for a more pleasant studio experience. 😊
-
Most people pre-register online or through our app. To register online, go to our book a class page. Find the class you want and click Book. You can find a link to the app on our homepage. For most classes, you can also register in the studio right before class, but some classes fill through online bookings, and we don’t want you to be disappointed!
You can pay for a single class with a credit card. Or you can pay with a package or a membership. Packages give you a set number of classes (usually 10), and one “credit” is deducted each time you register for a class. One of our memberships gives unlimited weekly classes, and one gives 5 classes per month. Check out memberships and packages here.
-
In the studio, you can pay cash or check for single classes (drop-ins) and class packages. Memberships auto-renew and so require a credit or debit card.

This is my favorite question to answer because we have a kick-butt “add-a-guest” feature. Each time you book a class, you’ll be asked if you want to bring a guest. What could be easier?
Well, one thing could make it easier: If you become a Big Bluestem member, you’ll receive a free guest pass each month (in addition to unlimited regular classes, y’all). That’ll make bringing a guest super-D-duper easy.

We get it, life happens…. You can cancel online. Just login to your account, view your schedule, and click cancel. You can also cancel easily through our app.
If you cancel less than 2 hours before class start time (or “no-show”), our system will automatically notify you of a late-cancellation/no-show penalty. But, despite the automated notification (which we can’t turn off, darn), we only enforce this policy for classes that regularly fill or almost fill. These penalties may also be waived for sudden illness and other unforeseeable events. If you think you have been mis-charged, please email or call the studio.
Except for the rare late-cancellation/no-show penalties, if you paid for class with a 10-class package or a 5-class membership, your class credit will be refunded to your account. If you paid with credit card, you’ll receive “studio credit” for the amount that you paid. At this point, you can’t redeem the credit when you book online. Instead, we need to redeem it for you. So call, email, or tell us in person what class you want to take next. We’ll set you up!
-
We don’t expect this to happen often, but if the studio has to cancel, you will receive an automated notification. If you booked with a 10-class package or a 5-class membership, your class credit will be refunded automatically.
If you paid for a single class with cash, check, or credit card, our booking system will automatically issue studio “credit.” At this time, this credit cannot be redeemed through the online booking widget, but you may redeem at the front desk or by emailing or calling the studio. Let us know what class you want book, and we will apply your credit and book for you.
If you prefer a cash or credit card refund, please email or call the studio.
